Ibuki Taiko is led by Fiona and Katsu Umetsu, a dynamic duo with a passion for sharing their expertise in taiko drumming, origami, Japanese cooking, and Japanese wellbeing.
Fiona Umetsu
Fiona Umetsu is a passionate taiko player and teacher who has been at the forefront of developing taiko as an art form in Ireland.
With over 20 years of experience as a taiko performer and instructor, Fiona is dedicated to sharing her love and knowledge of taiko with others.
As an experienced leader and workshop facilitator, Fiona has a unique ability to bring people together and create a supportive and uplifting environment. Her passion for taiko is contagious, and she has inspired countless students to explore their creativity, develop their skills, and embrace the power of the drum.
Fiona’s commitment to taiko goes beyond the classroom and the stage. She believes that the art form has the power to transform lives and create positive change in the world. Through her work with taiko, Fiona strives to inspire others to be their best selves, to connect with their inner strength and creativity, and to find joy in the rhythms of life.

Katsu Umetsu
Katsu Umetsu is a multi-talented artist who is passionate about sharing the beauty of Japanese culture with others. With his skills in woodcarving, origami, and Japanese cuisine, Katsu has a wide range of talents that he loves to share through his workshops and events.
As an experienced workshop leader, Katsu has a knack for inspiring others to explore their creativity and find joy in traditional Japanese crafts. He also delights in teaching participants the unique flavors and techniques of Japanese cooking.
He believes that everyone has something to learn and gain from his rich and diverse Japanese culture, and he is committed to being a guide on that journey.
Katsu’s warm and welcoming personality makes his workshops a memorable experience for all participants. He creates a relaxed and inclusive environment where everyone feels encouraged to try new things and explore their creative potential.
